South Korea's President Lee
Myung-Bak has left for South
Africa to make a last-minute
pitch for his country's third
bid to host the Winter
Olympics.
Mr Lee departed for the city of Durban in the presidential plane decorated with the emblem of the bidder, Pyeongchang, to press its case before Wednesday's
International Olympic
Committee vote to select the
2018 host city. He will stay
in South Africa until
Wednesday to support
Pyeongchang, which is running
against Munich of Germany and
Annecy of France.
South Korea has already invested more than US$1.5 billion to build facilities in and around the town, 180 kilometres east of Seoul.
