A senior banker has escaped a
prison sentence for possessing
an unlicensed gun found in his
luggage at Chek Lap Kok
airport. Yan Shen, 43, was
ordered to carry out 240 hours
of community service and fined
HK$50,000.
Mr Yan, who headed
the North Asia institutional
clients group of Deutsche Bank
Asia, was arrested in May when
a pistol and ammunition were discovered during a search of his baggage.
District Court
Judge Yau said the case was a
special one. Judge Yau said he
did not accept the defendant's
explanation that he was
unaware it was illegal to
possess firearms.
However,
Judge Yau said he'd decided
not to jail Mr Yan because he
was suffering from a
"dependent personality
disorder," and a prison term
might affect his treatment.
