The former president of
state-owned Shanghai
Pharmaceutical Group has been
sentenced to death for
corruption, in a case that has
fuelled concerns over drug
safety. The court gave Wu
Jianwen a two-year reprieve,
which usually means his
sentence will be commuted to
life in prison.
He was found
guilty of taking bribes of
almost 12 million yuan and
embezzling 33 million yuan.
State media said Mr Wu took
bribes 35 times over ten years
from suppliers of raw
materials used in the
company's products.
