The new chief executive of the
Mass Transit Railway
Corporation, Jay Walder, says
it has not yet decided on
possible fare increases for
this year. Speaking on his first day in charge of the company, Mr Walder said any rise would be determined by the existing
fare adjustment mechanism.
Mr Walder - who joined the MTR as chief executive-designate in
November - was formerly chairman of New York's Metropolitan
Transportation Authority. Asked about the aggressive cost-cutting measures he introduced during his tenure there, he said that the circumstances in Hong Kong were very different.
