A group representing local head teachers has called for changes to the planned introduction of national education. The chairman of the Hong Kong Association of the Heads of Secondary Schools, Yuen Pong-yiu, repeated its opposition to the move.

Speaking on RTHK, Dr Yuen said it should be taught through different subjects, rather than on its own.

The association has already written an open letter to the Secretary for Education, Eddie Ng, expressing their concerns about the current plans.

Dr Yuen said that whether the subject amounts to "brainwashing" will depend on the materials used and the teaching methods.

He said that a bank of teaching materials for sensitive topics should be created, and the public consulted on the teaching methods to be used.
