The Football Association said on its website that it's in the best interest of the future of Hong Kong football for the two sides to part ways.

Players from the Hong Kong team have publicly stated recently their displeasure at Merrick's selection of players.

The HKFA says it's still committed to driving forward with plans to advance the sport.

It says contigency plans are being put in place for the management of the Hong Kong team.
