Four people have been treated in hospital following a fire in a residential block in Ap Lei Chau.

Police say about 100 occupants were evacuated from the building after the fire started at about 6 am in Block 10 of South Horizons. Firemen using two jets and four teams extinguished it about four hours later.

A fireman and a nine-year-old girl were among those sent to hospital.

A deputy chief fire officer, Leung Chi-hung, said water pressure from a fire hydrant was so weak that his men had to use another water source. He said officers would examine if fire safety equipment at the building had been properly checked during their investigation of what caused the blaze.
