Supporters of the Occupy Central movement say organisers should promote the campaign better - for it to become a territory-wide movement.

This was one of the main concerns participants came up with following the first "deliberation day" of the campaign.

Vowing to overcome all difficulties - organisers hailed it as a new chapter in Hong Kong's democratic process - as more than 600 supporters gathered at Hong Kong University on Sunday to discuss common concerns about the movement.

The campaign advocates blocking traffic in Central next year as a form of civil disobedience to demand true universal suffrage.

The participants split up into some 40 groups for discussions.

Before the four-hours of discussions started, a protest against the Occupy Central movement took place outside the deliberation venue. Members of the group Voice of Loving Hong Kong accused the organisers of "fake democracy" and forcing participants to violate the law.
