On the subject of games, Mahjong is perhaps one of the most traditional strategy games in existence. To help Mr Markam better understand the artistry of mahjong craftsmanship, Maisy will ask Master Cheung, who has been working as a mahjong tile carver for over 50 years, to guide him in creating a Malaysian-themed mahjong tile. Did you know that a time-honoured medicated oil, which is a household essential in Hong Kong, actually originated in Malaysia? As residents of our city, Mr Gan and his son – the brand’s third- and fourth-generation successors – combine the Malaysian human touch with the adaptability of Hongkongers to devise their own unique business strategy.

Dancing is a sport and leisure. It can also be a self-discovery journey. On weekdays, Arya Jackson is an Indonesian domestic helper. On Sundays, Arya puts on her dance costumes and takes up another role – leader of an Indonesian dance group, the Jackson Dancer. All six members of the group are “Indonesian helpers”. They came from different dance groups and were even competitors on stage before. Yet, their talents have brought them together. Arya has left her home in Indonesia and started working overseas for over 20 years. She came to Hong Kong 17 years ago. To Arya and the dancers, Hong Kong is the place where they work. It is also the place where they have spent most of their youth. Here in Hong Kong, they have found another way of life, a space and a stage that is not available back home. They also get to learn afresh and even promote the culture of their homeland.

Every year over 80 million tons of methane escape into the atmosphere from the oil and gas industry. The extremely hazardous greenhouse gas is the main component of natural gas. Using special cameras, satellite images and data analytics, scientists are on a quest for those responsible. Step by step they reveal badly maintained installations, indifference and profit avarice in the extraction of oil and gas. This is persistently denied, though, by many companies. At the same time, the technology for preventing methane leaking out of extraction plants and pipelines has long been available.

Tang Kwong-san was born in Guangzhou in 1992. His father brought him to live in Hong Kong when he was five years old. Five years later, his mother joined them. Today that childhood separation from his mother and the experience of uprootedness and dislocation still influences much of his art. Born in 1987 in Chongqing, visual artist Tao Hui is now based in Beijing. He was awarded his Bachelor’s degree in oil painting at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2010. His video and installation works are cinematic, often bringing together traditional folklore and popular culture to examine contemporary society. On show at Tai Kwun Contemporary until 2nd February 2025, "In the Land Beyond Living" is Tao’s perspective on human conditions in contemporary China. Reggie Yip was previously the lead vocalist of the now disbanded indie band and beat-making group R.I.D.D.E.M. In her new incarnation as a solo singer she goes by the name, “Reggie the Leaf”. By encouraging consumption from these enterprises, funds are directed towards employing marginalized individuals, while customers also benefit from the goods and services offered. Over the years, Ted's initiative has evolved into a social enterprise platform, bringing his dream closer to becoming a reality. Ted's journey is an ongoing one, but his unwavering dedication and the growth of the social enterprise platform demonstrate that his vision is gradually being fulfilled. He continues to work tirelessly to create positive change and empower the less fortunate in Hong Kong.
