Backchat
Backchat
On Monday’s Backchat, we’re talking about breastfeeding . The city's first breast milk bank – located at the Hong Kong Children's Hospital in Kowloon Bay – has just launched, and will begin collecting milk from donors starting this week. The samples will be used to help premature and critically ill babies whose mothers are unable to breastfeed. The facility aims to collect 50 to 100 litres of breast milk in its first stage of service, with health authorities hoping to get around 1,000 litres a year when the facility becomes fully operational. Are Hong Kong mothers culturally ready to accept donating their breast milk to a baby other than their own? We’ll find out. After 9:45, we learn more about the discovery of a butterfly which is believed to have flown all the way from Japan to Hong Kong. 9:05am-9:45am: Hong Kong's first breastmilk bank 9:05am-9:45am: Liz Thomas, Founder of It Tastes Like Love, a campaign to normalise breastfeeding 9:05am-9:30am: Lena Wong, Founder and Executive Director of Hong Kong Momtrepreneurs 9:30am-9:45am: Dr Charas Ong, Honorary Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, The University of Hong Kong 9:45am-10:00am: Butterfly flying from Japan to Hong Kong 9:45am-10:00am: Ling Yuet-fung, postdoctoral fellow at the University of Hong Kong’s School of Biological Sciences.
