“I. M. Pei: Life Is Architecture” is the first large-scale retrospective exhibition on Pei. It will be held from June 29 to January next year, featuring more than 300 exhibits, including drawing manuscripts, architectural models, photos, videos, archives, etc, some of which are on display for the first time.

The race to St. John’s is underway and the five pairs leave the indigenous island of Haida Gwaii and head into the wild, navigating their way into the heart of the Yukon to the second checkpoint - Dawson City - a boom town established during the Klondike gold rush of 1898. Getting to Dawson means completing a journey of over 2000km north up one of the most isolated highways in the world, the vast wilderness only occasionally broken by the odd small settlement or truck stop. The racers will have to negotiate dense forests and vast ice fields, all with next to no public transport Race leaders, Claudia and her dad Kevin are the first to leave with a slender 2-minute advantage over their rivals. After a budget-busting taxi ride in the previous leg, the team opt for a no-frills strategy of camping and car sharing. As the leg progresses they try and repair their relationship and make up for lost time, but the relentless journey takes its toll on Claudia who reaches breaking point. Best friends Tricia and Cathie set off with different priorities. Self-confessed control freak Cathie is anxious about venturing into the unknown and being reliant on others, whereas ‘gung ho’ Trisha wants to get going and experience all she can before she loses her sight completely; they decide to gamble, spending big to take matters into their own hands. A job working on the shores of vines lake gives Cathie a moment to reflect on her work life back home and how the race could be the perfect tonic after a stressful few years. To get them to Dawson City, married couple Zainib and Mobeen continue to rely on the kindness of strangers and hope to save money by ride sharing their way to the checkpoint. Through the leg, Zainib recognises the cultural pressure she faces back home and after a sheltered upbringing is yearning to break free from those expectations, and feels now is the perfect time to have an adventure and take some risks, much to Mobeen’s surprise. Having never owned a backpack prior to setting off from Vancouver, Monique’s education continues. Father Ladi is hopeful Monique will recognise her privilege through the race but the leg gets off to a difficult start when Monique has to camp for the first time. As the pair journey through the magnificent landscapes of British Columbia, and experience the wonder of the Bear Glacier, Monique starts to see the beauty Canada has to offer. Estranged brothers Marc and Michael leave the checkpoint in last place, and things go from bad to worse when Marc’s fear of bears causes a spat between the pair. After a slow start they try out an alternative approach to the race and focus on getting to know each other as brothers. As the team who know each other the least, can they overcome their struggles and learn to open up to each other and start thinking smarter as a team? The race is on, and the stakes are higher than ever before as the legacy of the pandemic throws extra challenges at our travelling couples who all want to be first to the finish line and win the £20,000 cash prize. As the series unfolds we will see chance encounters, cultural as well as personal revelations and some of the most awe-inspiring locations on the planet. Since its establishment in 1883, the Hong Kong Observatory has been tasked with forecasting and defending against natural disasters. Recently, with global climate change, the Observatory has become more actively involved in international meteorological efforts. The Observatory has developed and operates two websites for the WMO, namely the Severe Weather Information Centre and the World Weather Information Service. It helps the public and relevant institutions to access this information quickly and effectively, allowing for timely action to mitigate disaster.

For dedicated hikers, the Chuen Lung Family Walk is a nice warm-up exercise. For families out for a casual stroll, it’s a nice easy trail with a nearby tea house that serves dim sum. Tsuen Wan’s nearby Chuen Lung Tsuen, that’s “dragon stream village” in English, is a 500-year-old Hakka village. Now there’s a new reason to visit, particularly if you’re a photography lover. Currently on show at White Cube Hong Kong is the work of Korean artist Lee Jin Woo, whose practice is rooted in traditional Korean aesthetics and in the Dansaekhwa movement. The movement was founded in South Korea in the 1950s by a group of artists mostly born between 1930 and 1940. Rejecting realism, they emphasised modernist abstraction and formalism, focusing on monochrome and the two-dimensional nature of the canvas and using repetitive patterns and gestures. Born into a musical family, pianist Hui Ling started playing young, when she was just three years old. c She received her musical training at the secondary school of the Central Conservatory Music in Beijing before furthering her studies at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Since she returned to Hong Kong in 1994 she’s been a soloist and a music educator. She’s with us now to tell us a little about her upcoming piano recital at the Hong Kong City Hall.

Fire Asia international conference will be held from July 19 to 12 at the Convention and Exhibition Centre. Jointly organised by the Fire Department and multiple professional societies, it will see the participation of official representatives from ASEAN member states, Argentina, Egypt, South Africa and more. The theme of the three-day conference is “Collaboration and Technology - Better Prepare the Community for Emergency”. It will focus on topics such as innovative fire protection engineering, optimizing rescue technology, and meeting future challenges through cooperation. Important speakers from all over the world will share their insights and groundbreaking scientific research results.

Flag selling is a vital source of donations for many non-profit organizations. However, for smaller entities, organizing such events is far from simple. It often requires the recruitment of hundreds of volunteers and the allocation of significant manpower and resources to coordinate various arrangements. Additionally, meeting the Social Welfare Department's "net income target" adds pressure, with some organization heads admitting that nearly all their manpower is devoted to preparing for flag sales a month in advance, impacting other services and presenting a dilemma. In recent years, the introduction of electronic flag selling has emerged as a potential solution to enhance fundraising effectiveness.

The string quartet is a popular form of chamber music, typically consisting of two violins, a viola, and a cello. The Romer String Quartet is formed by four native musicians passionate about promoting a new generation of chamber music culture in Hong Kong. They frequently volunteer to provide free music workshops and performances for children. In this episode, they not only present classical pieces by Mozart and Haydn but also music from Hayao Miyazaki's animated film "Kiki's Delivery Service." The Romer String Quartet, comprised of local musicians Kitty Cheung, Kiann Chow, Ringo Chan, and Eric Yip, was established in 2013. They have held concerts in prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall in New York, Toppan Hall in Tokyo, and the Shanghai Concert Hall. Their collaborations span various artists, including dancers, poets, and indie rock bands. Their multimedia project, "Muted Situations", has been showcased at the Asia Triennial Manchester in the UK, Art Basel in Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong New Vision Arts Festival.
