With the hosting of the Olympics and the Paralympic Games this year, Paris and France, are very much in the international spotlight right now. To celebrate that, later in the show we’re bringing you some music from the 17th century French Baroque era. First though, Public Art Hong Kong is a non-profit organisation funded by the Y.K.Pao Foundation to make art more accessible to the public. In 2005, the foundation selected the Hong Kong Arts Centre to act as its executive arm. In the ensuing two decades the Arts Centre has continued to take art to the streets and to bring communities together.

The second Asia+ Festival, planned by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, covers multimedia dance, concerts, musicals and dramas, films, workshops and more. The Festival presents the culture and art of nearly 30 Asian, Middle Eastern and “Belt and Road” countries.

Climate change worsens extreme weather events and continues to raise sea levels, with small island developing states bearing the brunt. Vio Island, a small island off the west coast of Fiji's largest island Viti Levu, serves as the first community pilot site for the rural electrification project initiated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This project aims to provide electricity to 4% of the Fijian population currently without energy access, through generating renewable energy like solar power. How does rural electrification bring about transformative change to the local villagers? In response to the rising frequency of tropical cyclones, coastal communities grow mangroves and build nature-based seawalls. How do they leverage traditional wisdom to enhance local adaptation efforts? Education is key to addressing climate change. The University of the South Pacific (USP) in Suva, Fiji, is one of the most prestigious tertiary education institutions in the Pacific region. With the goal of nurturing the next generation and carrying out policy-relevant environmental research, the Pacific Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development (PaCE-SD) has been established. Meanwhile, the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development (CATD) in Nadi offers a diverse range of industry-related technical courses for youth, promoting infrastructure development and advancing sustainable shipbuilding. The Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships will be held at the Hong Kong Coliseum from September 9 to 15. You too can find your own path, your own way to make a difference in the world." - Dr. Pui-wah Choi Dr. Choi, a holder of a PhD from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the founder of a Biotech company, is an accomplished female biomedical scientist with a profound interest in addressing women's diseases. Her doctoral research primarily focused on ovarian cyst formation and the migration of ovarian cancer cells. She pursued postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. This included the discovery of new biomarkers for diagnosing and prognosing ovarian cancer. Through her groundbreaking work, she has made significant contributions to the field by inventing a non-invasive kit that combines a sanitary pad for self-testing for cervical cancer. The journey of scientific invention bears a striking resemblance to that of Monk Tong, who obtained the sutra. Along the path to the east, obstacles abound. As a female scientist, Dr. Choi will share her personal experience and insights on overcoming challenges while striving to enhance human health and well-being. Her ultimate goal is to fulfill the dreams of others, enabling them to lead healthy and happy lives.

The Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnivals, to be held from September 12 to 18 at Victoria Park and Tsing Yi Park. It’s more than just viewing lanterns. This year, intangible cultural heritage elements will also be added to the carnivals, such as traditional lantern displays, fire dragon dance and traditional handicraft demonstrations from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau.

The Belt and Road Summit is a premier international platform for promoting business collaboration along the Belt and Road. The Summit gathers senior government officials and business leaders from countries and regions along and beyond the Belt and Road to exchange insights on multilateral co-operation and explore concrete business opportunities.

A recent global study suggests that the average person spends around six hours and forty minutes staring at computer or TV screens every day. Young people born between the 1990s and the early 2010s, often labelled the Gen Z generation, average around nine hours a day. It’s not always good for our concentration or our mental health. Recently, many avid screen-gazers have been increasingly advised to “Touch grass”, to disconnect from technology, go outside, get some fresh air and be in nature. That phrase is the title of the latest exhibition by local artist Kingson Chan. “Theta Sequencing” at Lucie Chang Fine Arts is a dual exhibition by two young female artists, Ji Zou and Zhou Binbin. While both have Chinese origins, they grew up and studied overseas. The exhibition illustrates their two artists’ use of contrast, imageries and cultural symbolism. If you’ve seen him on The Works before you’ll probably remember RUMBU’s striking countertenor voice. He was trained in classical music performance, but his true passion is for jazz and pop. He’s a recent graduate of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He’s here now to tell us what he’s been up to since and to introduce his first digital single "Do You Understand?"
