Happy New Year. Later in this week’s show we’re kicking off the new year by “tripping the light fantastic”. In other words, we’re celebrating the new year with dance, specifically tango and tango music. Nazar Tabachyshyn, accordion player and founder of the local band, Café 852, will be here with pianist Melodie Wong and two dancers. Don’t go away. First though, a trip to the circus, where circus highlights, especially in modern times and now that performing animals have fallen out of favour, can include acrobatics, aerial numbers, juggling, clowning, magic and even theatre. Here in Hong Kong, Tai Kwun has organised a contemporary circus festival during the holiday season since 2018. We went to take a look at their training programme. Currently showing at Hauser & Wirth Hong Kong is Mark Bradford’s “Exotica”. Bradford is known for his large-scale abstract paintings using paper and graphic materials he has collected. Through video, print, collages, drawing, mixed media and installations, he explores social and political issues within marginalised and vulnerable communities.

A brand new #ddHK event themed “Creative Journey · Infinite Discovery” will take place from 12 December 2024 to 14 February 2025, integrating creative elements with the cultural, heritage and natural offerings of Tsuen Wan and Sha Tau Kok and leading visitors to discover the distinctive characteristics there.

In 1970, 42 years after the opening of the hotel, its management was in the hands of Baron Lawrence Kadoorie and Sir Michael Kadoorie of the establishment’s founding family. With father and son both being avid car enthusiasts, a decision was made to introduce a limousine fleet. The more famous the hotel became, the more VIPs stayed there. To cope with the increasing number of guests, it was necessary to extend the original 6-storey building. The works for adding a 30-storey new wing to the north tower then commenced in 1991 to include a rooftop restaurant, spa, and other modern facilities. A helipad was even put in place, making the hotel accessible by land, sea, and air.

The boss of a listed medical beauty company, Rosita Chiang from "Beauty In The Making," raised funds through a new stock allocation method to purchase "On Yin Pharmaceutical," which claimed to have great potential. However, Hong Kong Securities and Futures commission suspected that the latter was just a business-obscure shell company. Investigator Crystal encountered a minor accident and got injured while conducting an on-site inspection of the factory alone. However, her supervisor, Tony, reiterated his disagreement with her overly aggressive approach and revealed his own investigation: Rosita's offer to purchase the company from the person in charge of "On Yin". Mak Kong, was a pretext for stock allocation. Prior to this, Chiang had manipulated "dummy accounts" to boost the stock price and create a false positive image. However, all the accounts were located offshore, making it difficult to gather evidence. Determined, Crystal held on and continued to search through a large amount of data, finally finding a loophole and successfully proving that Rosita Chiang directly caused market misconduct, leaving her speechless despite her previous arrogance. In fact, Tony and Crystal have pre-existing values based on their life experiences. Crystal had a close friend who was deceived and suffered financial and emotional harm, leading Crystal to harbor deep resentment towards scammers. On the other hand, Tony has sailed through many ups and downs in life and has come to understand that everything has its causes and consequences, and there is no need to be overly attached. Their differences in values have become more apparent in their investigative work. How can they successfully reconcile their differences?

The 2023 Policy Address proposed the continued implementation and improvement of the Youth Development Blueprint, “study the possibility of utilising suitable facilities to provide Youth Link participants with a platform for constant interaction, including multi-function areas, a youth culture and creativity bazaar, and small-scale performance spaces.” The Youth Development Commission has also set up the Youth Development Fund to support youth entrepreneurship and other development activities. Today, many young people are choosing to start their own businesses, using their entrepreneurial skills to earn their first pot of gold. Besides the government's strong push for youth entrepreneurship, many NGOs have also established programmes and support systems to help young people carve out their entrepreneurial paths. However, despite their creativity, young people often lack practical experience and funding. How can society best support and encourage them to truly build a future for themselves?

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HK Section) Half Marathon will be held on January 5. This year, it has been upgraded to a Gold Label Road Race by the global governing body, World Athletics, with a quota of 8,000.
