1. Straight from the horse’s mouth
意思是「直接從當事人或可靠來源得知消息」，強調消息的真實性和可信度。
“They are going to be married. I got the news straight from the horse’s mouth—their minister.”
他們快要結婚了，我是直接從他們的牧師那裡知道的。
2. Look a gift horse in the mouth
形容那些對收到的禮物挑三揀四或不滿足的人，提醒大家應該對禮物心懷感恩，而非過度挑剔。
“John gave Joe a basketball, but Joe complained that the ball was old. His father told him not to look a gift horse in the mouth.”
約翰送給喬一個籃球，但喬卻抱怨球太舊了。喬的爸爸警告他不要對別人的禮物吹毛求疵。
3. Dark horse 黑馬
形容那些原本不被看好，但最終表現出色的競爭者，特別用於體育或其他競爭場合中。
“He plays tennis so well, he could be a dark horse for this tournament.”
他打網球打得很好，可能會成為這場錦標賽的黑馬。
4. A horse of another (a different) color 完全是另一回事
用來比喻「完全不同的事情」，用於表達某個情況或真相與原本預期截然不同。
“You mean to say that guy with that beautiful girl is her brother! I thought he was her boyfriend. Hey, that’s a horse of a different color.”
你的意思是，和那位漂亮姑娘在一起的那個人是她的兄弟！我原以為是她的男朋友呢！咦，這樣的情況就完全不同了。
