On Thursday’s Backchat, we’re talking about the government’s plans to attract new visitors.

Tourism authorities unveiled a list of 93 mega events for the first half of next year, which are expected to draw 840,000 visitors, a 50% rise on the same period this year. The government estimates these events could generate up to HK$3.3 billion in spending, up 40% on this year’s figure.
From the Rugby Sevens next March to Coldplay’s concert in April, 2025 will also mark the first year of the new Kai Tak stadium, with a capacity of 50,000 seats.
So will 2025 be an auspicious year for the events industry? After 9:45, we’ll learn about the Jockey Club’s new financial education programme.

Cruises and events / Wild animal feeding ban

    Presenters:Jim Gould and Mike Rowse

On Monday's Backchat, we're talking about important developments in the recovery of the tourism industry.

A major new attraction opens to the public on Monday in the form of the world's first "Frozen" themed park, at Hong Kong Disneyland. Inspired by the well known animated musical fantasy of the same name, the new World of Frozen offers "the ultimate immersive experience".
And last Thursday, the territory welcomed the luxury cruise ship, Celebrity Solstice, which will call Hong Kong home for the next five months. With a capacity of about 3,000 passengers, the upscale vessel is expected to bring in
up to 30,000 visitors during the period.
Also at the weekend, amid the ongoing campaign to boost night time activity and entertainment, the West Kowloon Cultural District was organising a series of free music shows, with food and drink available.
After 9:45, we look into proposals to strengthen an existing ban on the feeding of wild animals.
