On Monday's Backchat we’re talking about proposals to establish a legal framework for people to make advance instructions on medical treatment in end-of-life situations.
The Hospital Authority allows patients to submit advanced medical directives, or AMDs, in written form, and an increasing number have been doing so in recent years. But as there is no current legislation on the practice, there's concern that both individuals and medical personnel could face legal and practical challenges.
A bill to give greater legal force to such directives was gazetted on Friday and is due for its first reading in the Legislative Council on December 6. And in future, patients may also be able to make advance instructions in digital form.
After 9:45, we find out more about a robot exhibition at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park, with enterprises in the business of developing the smart city concept, and sustainable innovation technologies, showcasing the latest robo-tech in the market.
