COP28 developments / Hong Kong reef check

    Presenters:Jim Gould and Ada Wong

On Tuesday’s Backchat, we're talking about developments and arguments at the climate summit in Dubai.

The two-week event began last Thursday with delegates agreeing to a new fund to help nations suffering damage caused by the climate crisis.

And about 100 countries have promised to triple renewable energy use by 2030.

But controversy has arisen after it emerged that the president of the COP28 summit, Sultan Al Jaber, had claimed there was “no science” to state that phasing out fossil fuels was necessary to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Environmental groups want more pressure on oil and gas companies to cease production.

After 9:45am, we’ll look at the health of Hong Kong’s reef and marine biodiversity.

9:05-9:30am Athena Yau and Joanne Chu, CCIL’s youth delegates in Dubai

9:05am-9:45am Priscilla lin, COP26, COP27 Youth Delegate and the Co-Founder of Solmunity and The Shared Meal

9:30am-9:45am Thomas Tang, Adjunct Professor at City University School of Energy and Environment and CEO and Founder, PJ Sustainability Consulting

9:45am-10:00am Lydia Pang, Interim Head of Ocean, Conservation, WWF
