2023 District Council election results / Fossilised pliosaur discovery

    Presenters:Jim Gould and Car Ha

On Tuesday's Backchat, we're talking about the 2023 District Council election results.

Hailed by Chief Executive John Lee as "high quality polls", this year's district council elections were the first to take place since the initiation of an overhaul in 2021 which reduced the number of directly elected seats from 452 to 88.
The DAB party emerged as the main winner, having secured 109 of 264 seats available, including both directly and indirectly elected places. The Federation of Trade Unions came second, followed by the New People's Party and the Business and Professionals' Alliance.
The remaining 101 seats were won by independent candidates and smaller parties.
In Yau Tsim Mong district, three out of six candidates were from ethnic minority backgrounds, which was hailed as a demonstration of Hong Kong's multiculturalism. However, none was successful in the poll.
After 9:45, we learn about the recent discovery on the south coast of England of a fossilised pliosaur -- a giant maritime predator that lived about 150 million years ago.
