2023 population figures / Calls to better regulate the use of bamboo scaffoldings

    主持人:Danny Gittings and Philip Wong

On Thursday's Backchat, we're looking at the latest population figures which show a slight increase in both births as well as the total number of people living in Hong Kong.

There were 33,200 births last year, according to figures from the Census and Statistics Department, up 2% on the previous year and the first increase since 2017. Hong Kong's population also rose by 0.4% to 7.5 million, something the government attributes to not only new births but also recent talent schemes and Hongkongers returning from overseas.
However there were still more deaths than births last year and Hong Kong's elderly population is expected to soar to 2.74 million in 2046, up from the current 1.45 million. So what do these figures tell us? We'll find out.
After 9:45, we get the construction sector's views on calls to better regulate or even ban the use of bamboo scaffolding at construction sites after an accident killed two workers in Kai Tak on Tuesday. We'd love to know what you think.

    9:05am-9:45am: 2023 population figures
