Hong Kong 2025 property outlooks /"Storm Clouds" drama: interview with the Hong Kong Dance Company

On Thursday’s Backchat, we’re looking at what to expect from Hong Kong’s property market in 2025.

The government is taking a cautious approach, offering only one plot of land to developers in the last quarter of this financial year.
Some analysts predict that the 10,000 new flats set to come on the market this year will also add to the existing glut of unsold units and further depress property prices.
But others are more optimistic, predicting that residential prices—and especially rentals—may record modest increases during the coming year.
So who’s right, and which way will the local property market move in 2025? We’ll talk to the experts.
After 9:45, we’re learning more about a martial arts dance drama by the Hong Kong Dance Company that’s based on a local comic legend.

Regulation of Hong Kong's home decoration services / Hong Kong's first hydrogen double decker bus

    主持人:Jenny Lam and Mike Rowse

On Monday's Backchat, we're looking at whether home renovation services need to be regulated.

The Consumer Council said it receives hundreds of complaints each year about renovation firms, regarding issues such as the quality of work carried out, completion times and cost disputes.
It warned that problems can crop up right at the beginning of the process, with a lot of quotations provided by firms leaving a lot to be desired.
To help resolve the problem, the watchdog is now suggesting the government introduce a standard quotation template, covering things such as separate costs for various materials, labour fees, payment schedules and remedies for any delays, so that potential customers can make meaningful comparisons between various renovation firms.
How useful would such a system be? Should the industry regulate itself, or is it a job for the government?
After 9:45am, we’ll find out more about Hong Kong’s first hydrogen-powered double decker that just hit the road today.
