Donald Trump's cabinet picks / Japanese PM Shigeru Ishiba's victory

On Friday's Backchat, Global Focus looks at the latest political developments in the US, following the victory of Donald Trump.

The president-elect began filling his cabinet ahead of the January 16 inauguration, tapping neocon Marco Rubio as secretary of state and non-interventionist Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence. Some see this move as a strategy to calibrate the country’s foreign policy.
Meanwhile, war veteran and Fox News host Pete Hegseth is poised to become the next defense secretary.
Billionaire Elon Musk has been tasked to lead the newly launched Department of Government Efficiency alongside former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
Matt Gaetz — who was formerly the target of a sex trafficking investigation by the Department of Justice — has been tapped attorney general to head the very same department, at the surprise of many Republicans.
Senate Democrats are on a race against time to confirm as many federal judges as possible to limit the influence of Republicans, who are expected control both the executive and legislative branches of government.
In the last part of the programme, we get an update from Japan on Shigeru Ishiba’s re-election as Prime Minister.

Hong Kong Art Week / Plans to increase university tuition fees

    主持人:Jim Gould and Philip Wong

On Tuesday's Backchat, we're talking about arts and culture development.

Chief Executive John Lee has pledged to strengthen Hong Kong's role as an "East-meets-West" centre for cultural exchange, citing the city's robust experience in hosting international events.
He was speaking at the start of the Hong Kong International Cultural Summit in West Kowloon, which has brought together more than 1,000 leading figures from the field from around the
world to discuss matters ranging from the impact of digital technologies to reinforcing transnational collaboration between museums.
The gathering is taking place as part of Hong Kong Art Week. It coincides with the start of Art@Harbour 2024 and comes ahead of other "mega events" including Art Basel, and Art Central.
So how does Hong Kong's art scene now compare with that of Shanghai or New York? We'll get some perspectives from our expert guests.
