Controversy over HKU expansion plans / Hong Kong Open golf tournament results

On Monday’s Backchat, we talking about controversial plans to build a new research hub in Pok Fu Lam. The University of Hong Kong is hoping to build a Global Innovation Centre which — if it goes ahead — could rezone land classified as a “green belt”.

Residents’ groups have expressed concern at the environmental and traffic impact of the plans, leading the university to reduce the density of the proposed development. But despite HKU announcing that it would review the scale of these proposals, some residents would like to see the campus extension moved out of their neighbourhood, suggesting Cyberport or the San Tin Technopole as more suitable locations.
After 9:45, we'll look into the result of this year's Hong Kong Open golf tournament.

Hong Kong's deepening ties with the Middle East / Citybus' hiring of 20 non-local bus drivers

    主持人:Brian Wong and Mike Rowse

On Monday’s Backchat, we're talking about Hong Kong's deepening ties with the Middle East.

Last week, Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia ratified a legal pact in a move aimed at strengthening cooperation in matters related to dispute avoidance and resolution. The agreement is part of the government's push to leverage its role as an international arbitration centre.
This comes at a time of growing economic exchanges between Hong Kong and the Middle East, as the SAR hopes to increase capital influx from the Arab world through family offices.
Are such agreements an opportunity for Hong Kong to promote its legal system to the world? And are we geared-up to welcome new family offices?
After 9:45, we talk about Citybus’ hiring of 20 non-local bus drivers.
