    Government's transport roadmap / Anti-smoking regulations

On Thursday's Backchat, we're talking about the government’s new road map to help transport operators go green.

More than HK$600 million of public funds will be spent subsidising the purchase of 600 electric buses and 3,000 electric taxis, as part of a blueprint to turn Hong Kong into a carbon neutral city by 2050.

There are also plans to boost the number of electric charging stations, with at least 500 fast chargers expected to be in place by 2027.

After 9:30, we find out about proposals to make CCTV cameras and e-payment compulsory in all taxis by 2026.

And after 9:45,we loo into plans to delay amendments to anti-smoking regulations.

Calls to enhance support for working mothers / Doulos Hope book fair ship

    Presenters:Jenny Lam and Mike Rowse

On Monday's Backchat, we're talking about gender-based income inequalities.

A study conducted by the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Union found that the income gap between man and woman widened from HK$2,500 in 2021 to 3,600 last year, with grassroots women being among the most impacted.
The union also revealed that the number of women with a monthly income of less than HK$10,000 exceeds that of men by over 60,000, a gap mainly attributed to working mothers’ difficulty in finding a full-time job whilst taking care of their family.
Some organisations have called on the government to formulate new policies such as tax incentives to alleviate the burden on low income working mothers.
How serious is the problem? We’ll find out.
After 9:45, we speak with crews of the Doulos Hope, a floating book fair which will be in Hong Kong until May 26th.
