Leadership crisis in France and Germany / Devastating cyclone in the French territory of Mayotte

On Friday’s Global Focus, we’re looking at the latest developments in the European Union.

From the collapse of the French government earlier this month to the dismantling of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s coalition over a no-confidence vote, the two largest EU economies are facing an unprecedented leadership crisis, plunging the 27-member bloc into rising socio-economic uncertainty.
French President Emmanuel Macron is currently struggling on with a seemingly weak administration and without any budget for 2025, forcing lawmakers to roll over this year’s financial blueprint instead.
Meanwhile in Germany, early snap elections in February could significantly weaken the pro-EU camp, as the rising far-right AfD campaigns to reassess the country’s EU membership.
Are the European Union’s institutions strong enough to withstand this growing uncertainty? We’ll find out.
After 9:50, we’re talking about the devastating cyclone which ripped through the Comoros archipelago of Mayotte, France’s most impoverished territory.

Taxi driver penalty system / Passenger altercation on London-bound Cathay flight

    主持人:Andrew Work and Ada Wong

On Tuesday's Backchat, we're talking about the The Taxi-Driver-Offence Points (TDOP) Ordinance which just took effect.

Under the new rules, drivers will be disqualified from driving for up to six months if they accumulate 15 or more points within two years, and ordered to take a driver improvement course if they get 10 points or more within the same period.
The points system was introduced to rein on cab driver malpractice, and amidst growing competition from unregulated ride-hailing services.
But some industry experts believe that this is not enough and hope to see all cabs fitted with smart terminal systems, which would help gather evidence when passengers complain.
After 9:45, we learn more about how airlines deal with misbehaving passengers, after two Hongkongers were blacklisted by Cathay for having reportedly harassed a Mainland Chinese passenger on a London-bound flight.

    9:05am-9:45am: Taxi driver penalty system

9:05am-9:45am: Alok Jain, CEO and Managing Director of Trans Consult

9:05am-9:45am: KY Leung, Former President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport

9:45am-10:00am: Passenger altercation on London-bound Cathay flight

9:45am-10:00am: Steven Cheung, Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong Professional Airline Pilots Association and CEO of Seaplane Hong Kong Group
