Data protection for consumers / Tai Lam tunnel toll fee reduction reports

    Presenters:Jim Gould and CM Chan

On Wednesday’s Backchat, we’re talking about data protection for consumers using online travel platforms.

The Privacy Commissioner’s Office has found that three out of 10 such operators that it reviewed did not state their data retention policies, while two stated that they use artificial intelligence technologies to provide services which may involve the use of customers' personal data.
The regulator also found that all of the providers were tracking users’ activity by collecting data including browsing history as well as location, and has advised consumers to pay more attention to their privacy settings.
It warned that some platforms were using customers’ personal information to train their AI models, and called on online travel agents to be more transparent by giving customers an option to opt out.
After 9:45, we get some reactions to reports that transport authorities could charge cheaper time-varying tolls at the Tai Lam tunnel, when the government takes control in May next year.

    9:05am-9:45am: Data protection for consumers

9:05am-9:15am: Prof Emil Chan, Founding Chairman of the Association of Cloud and Mobile Computing
