On this week's edition of Global Focus, we’re looking into the latest developments in Korean politics. President Yoon Suk Yeol is once again facing impeachment after surviving a motion tabled against him last week, over his short-lived attempt to impose martial law. In a defiant speech, the embattled leader vowed to “fight till the end”, and blamed what he called “anti-state forces”, referring to the opposition-controlled parliament.
The leader’s televised address came shortly after police attempted to raid the presidential office compound, as part of a probe leading to the arrest of key figures, including the country’s police chief and its former defence minister. Yoon himself is subject of a travel ban, with authorities not ruling out arresting the strongman if conditions are met.
In the second half of the programme, we’ll talk about deepening rifts between US citizens and insurance companies, following the assassination of an executive.
