New Orleans terror attack / South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol's arrest warrant

On Friday’s Backchat, Global Focus talks about the New Year’s Day terror attack in the US. At least 15 people were killed and 30 injured when an SUV drove into crowds of revellers in New Orleans.

The US-born suspect – who is an army veteran - was shot dead by police and is believed to have been inspired by the Islamic State group. Investigators are probing if others were involved, as well as whether there is any connection with a car explosion outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas a few hours earlier.
Are ISIS-inspired attacks making a comeback?
After 9:45, we learn about the legal troubles facing impeached Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who now has an arrest warrant over his head following his failed attempt to impose martial law.

Claw machine phenomenon / "E-commerce" phishing scams / Use of aerial photos to analyse slopes

    Presenters:Jim Gould and John Bruce

On Wednesday's Backchat, we're talking about the claw machine phenomenon.

The Consumer Council has called for a review of regulations governing the devices amid an increasing number of complaints against operators.

It's been reported that some machines have been altered to make winning much harder, and users have been required to spend a minimum amount in order to claim prizes.

Claw machines aren't new to Hong Kong's game centres, but more such venues have emerged in recent years, often opening in vacated commercial premises and requiring few or no staff.

What makes this business so attractive? Are new regulations the solution?

After 9:30, we learn more about an increasing trend of online shopping scams.

And after 9:45, we hear about plans by government engineers to utilise new technologies to guard against landslides.
