Well it’s almost Christmas. It’s a time for giving, it’s also a time where sugar plays a significant role - whether it’s in the form of candy canes, minced pies, cookies, or even the sugar plum fairy. It’s truly a medium for creativity. CultureZine’s Ingrid Chen spoke to local sugar artist Mia Nel, who told her about her journey into sugar art, and why many of her creations are focused on butterflies and bulldogs:

The performance is part of Tai Kwun’s Circus Play programme this year, which also includes a Circus Bootcamp, that’s aimed at nurturing new generations of circus artists. This time they trained five teenagers over a six-month period. Carol Mang went to find out more. She first spoke to one of the faces inside the parrot costume:

This week, we look ahead to the Affordable Art Fair with Hong Kong Fair director Regina Zhang. CultureZine’s resident art expert will be digging deep with one painter taking part in the fair to find out what makes her tick, and to ask her about her dream coffee date. Also in store is a closer look at the wonders on display at the Palace Museum, and the workshop of one of Hong Kong’s few violin makers.
If you know of something special — a place, a person, or an experience in the arts and culture space... then let us know. Send an email to culturezine@rthk.hk
