This week, we visit some parrots that have just flown in from the Netherlands - but they’re not real ones. They're giant puppet parrots that have been nesting at Tai Kwun. We speak to a local artist whose work is literally sweet! She's inspired by Chinese sugar painting. And…the panda-monium continues! We visit an art gallery in Sheung wan that’s been invaded by funny surreal panda artwork .
Remember if you have  suggestions on any interesting places we can visit or people we can meet that’s related to art and culture in Hong Kong. Let us know. Email us at CultureZine@rthk.hk

Well it’s almost Christmas. It’s a time for giving, it’s also a time where sugar plays a significant role - whether it’s in the form of candy canes, minced pies, cookies, or even the sugar plum fairy. It’s truly a medium for creativity. CultureZine’s Ingrid Chen spoke to local sugar artist Mia Nel, who told her about her journey into sugar art, and why many of her creations are focused on butterflies and bulldogs:

Christmas is a time for giving, and that’s what performers visiting Hong Kong from the Netherlands are hoping to do. With their giant puppet parrots at Tai Kwun, they want to bring joy and laughter to visitors , through interaction and dance this month, to get you into the Christmas spirit. The performance is part of Tai Kwun’s Circus Play programme this year, which also includes a Circus Bootcamp, that’s aimed at nurturing new generations of circus artists. This time they trained five teenagers over a six-month period. Carol Mang went to find out more. She first spoke to one of the faces inside the parrot costume:

We now turn to pandas! And who doesn’t love pandas? But how about a panda eating egg waffles? A panda waiting for the tram? Or a gigantic panda sinking the Star Ferry? These are some of the artwork displayed at an exhibition we visited in Sheung wan. CultureZine’s Halim spoke to Tommy Fung from SurrealHK- the creative mind behind the artwork :
