This week, we visit some parrots that have just flown in from the Netherlands - but they’re not real ones. They're giant puppet parrots that have been nesting at Tai Kwun. We speak to a local artist whose work is literally sweet! She's inspired by Chinese sugar painting. And…the panda-monium continues! We visit an art gallery in Sheung wan that’s been invaded by funny surreal panda artwork .

07/09/2024 - Benis Cheng - Co-organiser of The Second Hong Kong International Inclusive Dance Festival

Many of us have been watching the Paralympics, hopefully on RTHK. Besides the skill, tenacity and athleticism on display, the games also brings out an important message of the need to embrace and celebrate differences. And we have an international inclusive dance festival happening in Hong Kong right now, that has a very similar message. The event invites the participation of differently-abled people, to take part in various forms of dance. Our Culture expert Anthony Lui spoke to Benis Cheng, the co-organiser of the festival, to find out what it’s all about:

07/09/2024 - Crystal Wong - Partnership Assistant and Business Development Manager at Hong Kong Tramways

The tram or what most people call ding ding has always been close to the hearts of Hongkongers... Most of us have fond, long-held memories about the ding ding, that has been in operation since 1904 . And now that its turned 120 years old many people have been rushing to celebrate this milestone. Jacqueline Guico spoke to Crystal Wong, the Partnership Assistant and Business Development Manager at Hong Kong Tramways on Broad Strokes:

07/09/2024 - Meggy Cheng - Executive Director of Hong Kong Dance Company

The Hong Kong Dance Company will kick off its new season of performances next month, and this year’s theme is ”Moving Beyond Tradition”. Meggy Cheng, the Executive Director of the group, told me about the innovative elements they‘ll inject into their upcoming shows:

07/09/2024 - Allan Tsui and Lawrence Lee - Curators of the Technical Art Fair 2024

It’s perhaps no surprise that stage performers will get the lion’s share of the attention in theatre productions – they are literally in the spotlight after all, but what about all the people toiling backstage to make sure each production goes off smoothly? Imagine what any production would be like without props, costumes, lighting? Much of the magic would be gone. To give them their much-deserved kudos, the Technical Arts Festival 2024 will highlight the importance of backstage production. CultureZine‘s Carol Mang spoke to Allan Tsui and Lawrence Lee, the curators of the show:
