This week we ask - when do nice clothes get elevated to the realm of art? We speak to Ikko Yokoyama, Lead Curator of Design and Architecture at M+ about the exhibition on Chinese couture artist, Guo Pei. We visit an exhibition in Shek Kip Mei by local arts group  - Ink Beings. And we learn more about legendary Hong Kong lyricist James Wong.

You don’t have to be a fan of fashion to appreciate that the intricate details, design and craftsmanship that’s evident in Guo Pei’s work that’s on display right now at M+, isn’t quite the same thing as finding a cute sweater at the mall. The curator of the exhibition, Ikko Yokoyama, says Guo’s work is a clear example where clothes transcend fashion to become art. CultureZine’s art expert Ingrid Chen met up with her to pick her brain on all things fashion, Guo Pei’s work and what she wants visitors to take away from the exhibition:

If you’ve been following CultureZine you know that we always like to find interesting places to visit or people to meet. This week, Janice Wong popped in an exhibition in Shek Kip Mei by a local arts group called “Ink Beings” and spoke to a few artists there:

02/11/2024 - Cheng Chun-tak - Assistant Curator at the Heritage Museum

This week, Janice Wong visited the Heritage Museum’s exhibition on Hong Kong lyricist James Wong. Some of the must-sees at the exhibition includes a harmonica designed and produced by James Wong’s high school teacher, who first taught him about writing music and lyrics. The exhibition also displays the script and lyrics manuscripts for the major musical "Liuyi's Letter" that’s never been exhibited before:
