This week, we’re talking about "weight management" which has become a hot topic across the mainland following the announcement of a renewed campaign to tackle obesity and promote healthier lifestyles. Unveiled during the annual Two Sessions meetings by Lei Haichao, director of the National Health Commission, the initiative aims to reduce chronic diseases. As part of the plan, China will establish multi-disciplinary "weight management clinics" in hospitals nationwide to help residents safely lose excess weight.
So what prompted officials to launch a national public health campaign on obesity? How effective will these measures be?
