Foreign Minister Wang Yi says Beijing will "firmly counter" US pressure on trade in the wake of new American tariffs on Chinese goods.
At a press conference on the sidelines of the "Two Sessions" in Beijing, he also warned of the risk of the "law of the jungle" taking hold in the world.
On the Ukraine war, the foreign minister said China wants to achieve a "fair, lasting and binding peace agreement" acceptable to all parties.
He also called for peace in war-ravaged Gaza.
