Music aficionado and band leader Colin Aitchison presents the musicians who were the huge, million-selling recording stars of an often forgotten era.
Before Bruno Mars, there was Bing Crosby, before the likes of Adele, there was Billie Holiday ... and before Justin Bieber ... well, where to start!?!
There’s some terrific music and stories from the ‘20s, ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s, plus a few laughs!
(Every Sunday, 8.30am-9am )
We might have a new theme song for the programme as performed this week by the Keller sisters with Jean Goldkette and his orchestra, with the song 'Sunday'. From 1939, Belle Baker brings us a song we all know and love, that would take on many different styles and arrangements in the years to come. In the late 50s, Don Lang and his Frantic Five take on Chuck Berry, and back to the start of that decade, it’s the mischievous Buddy Greco Quintet.
Two special guests are joining are Colin this week. Dave Batchelor Senior and Dave Batchelor Junior are both fine musicians and entertainers, and today they are choosing their favourite Vintage Chart Toppers. Among the 78s and early vinyl, listen out for Eddie Jefferson, Tommy Dorsey, Harold Betters, Chet Baker, and Ella and Louis. Join in for laugh, a chat, and some great music.

This week, the VCT gramophone collection takes in the sophisticated Dinah Shore, the stone hearted Fontane Sisters, and the baby faced Savoy Orpheans, with another top seller for Louie Prima and Keely Smith, and The Dinning Sisters in their Sunday best buttons and bows.
