Music aficionado and band leader Colin Aitchison presents the musicians who were the huge, million-selling recording stars of an often forgotten era.
Before Bruno Mars, there was Bing Crosby, before the likes of Adele, there was Billie Holiday ... and before Justin Bieber ... well, where to start!?!
There’s some terrific music and stories from the ‘20s, ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s, plus a few laughs!
(Every Sunday, 8.30am-9am )
This week on VCT, it's our trombone special, featuring a number of artists from over the decades, but in particular, Mr. Jeff Williams. This fine trombonist, vocalist, and entertainer was in town for one night, when Colin caught up with him for a chat. He picks out some personal favourite chart toppers as well as picking up his trombone and playing for us.
We might have a new theme song for the programme as performed this week by the Keller sisters with Jean Goldkette and his orchestra, with the song 'Sunday'. From 1939, Belle Baker brings us a song we all know and love, that would take on many different styles and arrangements in the years to come. In the late 50s, Don Lang and his Frantic Five take on Chuck Berry, and back to the start of that decade, it’s the mischievous Buddy Greco Quintet.
