Music aficionado and band leader Colin Aitchison presents the musicians who were the huge, million-selling recording stars of an often forgotten era.
Before Bruno Mars, there was Bing Crosby, before the likes of Adele, there was Billie Holiday ... and before Justin Bieber ... well, where to start!?!
There’s some terrific music and stories from the ‘20s, ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s, plus a few laughs!
(Every Sunday, 8.30am-9am )
We might have a new theme song for the programme as performed this week by the Keller sisters with Jean Goldkette and his orchestra, with the song 'Sunday'. From 1939, Belle Baker brings us a song we all know and love, that would take on many different styles and arrangements in the years to come. In the late 50s, Don Lang and his Frantic Five take on Chuck Berry, and back to the start of that decade, it’s the mischievous Buddy Greco Quintet.

The return this week of the 'boop-oop-a-doop' girl, Helen Kane. By way of a slight contrast from the cute and sweet, to the sophisticated and beautiful voice of Canadian-American actress/singer, Deanna Durbin. Staying with the ladies, we feature Patsy Cline and a young Teresa Brewer. All this plus Tony Bennett on Happiness Street, and a rockin’ 1935 Decca recording from James Kok.
