Music aficionado and band leader Colin Aitchison presents the musicians who were the huge, million-selling recording stars of an often forgotten era.
Before Bruno Mars, there was Bing Crosby, before the likes of Adele, there was Billie Holiday ... and before Justin Bieber ... well, where to start!?!
There’s some terrific music and stories from the ‘20s, ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s, plus a few laughs!
(Every Sunday, 8.30am-9am )
This week Colin is warming us up for the new year with some cool 78s and early vinyl to get us in the mood for ringing in 2025, Leslie Douglas sings of Happy Days, Happy Months, Happy Years, while Dean Martin complains about the cold weather, The Clark Sisters offer a Hot Toddy! And, we also open up the mail bag once again for some Hoagy Carmichael and Mario Lorenzi.
Leading the sing song on this first show of the year is Leslie Sarony and the band. We get a tiny glimpse behind the scenes of a 1928 recording session by Bix Beiderbecke, and the call of the freaks comes from The Washboard Rhythm Kings in 1931.
