Repeated Thursdays 3 pm
Faure was one of the foremost French composers of his generation. This month sees the 100th anniversary of his death (4.11.1924) and to mark the event, this series will explore the charm of his earlier music through to his impassioned later works.
Faure’s Élégie for cello and piano deemed "one of the last manifestations of French musical Romanticism”; his Second Piano Quintet "a work of incomparable nobility"; and the magnificent Requiem “dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest” - have all entered the general repertoire. A selection of his notable works for cello, piano and choral forces feature in upcoming episodes. In this first episode we will learn about the man, and explore some of the genres not covered in the upcoming episodes, particularly his mélodies.
