In this episode we will be hearing from composer and conductor Chan Wing-wah who shares his thoughts on some of Fauré's most iconic vocal works including the magnificent Requiem “dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest”, the Cantique de Jean Racine, and his setting of the Ave Maria - all showcasing Fauré's incredible talent and sensitivity. And we hear the composer’s take on the Pavane in the rarely heard version with choir.

2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Gabriel Fauré who passed on 04.11.1924. This French composer was the author of an immense body of works and in this episode we will focus on the ones he created for the cello. My studio guest is the Assistant Principal Cellist of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Laurent Perrin, who will share his impressions of the music Fauré created for his instrument including his Élégie, deemed "one of the last manifestations of French musical Romanticism”
