This series of four programmes will explore some of the examples of settings of the Mass movements generally known as the Missa Brevis, or Short Mass. The usual sequence of movements in this not always specific liturgical form runs: Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei. But there are sometimes simple reasons why one or more movements might be absent, for example, the Credo is often not set to music but included in the service as a congregational spoken section.
