We continue making connections between music and ‘visual art’ with Leon Bakst (Part 2), whose fame lay in the sets and costumes he designed for Diaghilev's legendary dance company the Ballets Russes. Narcisse et Echo was the second Tcherepnin ballet to be included in its repertoire and was presented in Paris in 1911. The idea for Narcisse, the script and the set design, were conceived by Bakst. The ballet was staged by the choreographer Fokine. This neglected work was unfortunately not well received. For whatever the reason, the set designs and evocative music deserve to be explored…
