In this joint production by the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Radio Television Hong Kong, 32 virtuoso pianists take you on a journey to meet Beethoven with piano.
In this episode, the following works have been selected for the audience's enjoyment:
- Piano Sonata No. 9 in E, Op. 14, No. 1, 1st movement: Allegro (Helen Cha)
- Piano Sonata No. 10 in G, Op. 14, No. 2, 1st movement: Allegro (Ning Zhao)
- Piano Sonata No. 11 in B flat, Op. 22, 4th movement: Rondo (Wai-yin Wong)
- Piano Sonata No. 20 in G, Op. 49, No. 2, 1st movement: Allegro, ma non troppo (Sihui Chen)
Helen Cha graduated with first-class honors from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and later obtained a Performer’s Certificate , double Master's degrees in Piano and Music Theory , and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music . She was the champion of the Open Class in the 12th Hong Kong (Asia) Piano Open Competition and has also won prizes in the Piano Texas Concerto Competition , the Eastman School of Music Concerto Competition , and the Thousand Islands International Chopin Competition .
Ning Zhao received full scholarships to pursue Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. And in 2008, she won the championship at the 6th J.N. Hummel International Piano Competition in Bratislava.
Wai-yin Wong has been crowned champion in the Southern Highlands International Piano Competition in Australia, the second prize winner in the 17th Hilton Head International Piano Competition in the United States, and the champion of the 7th International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz , along with five special awards. She has collaborated with numerous orchestras around the world.
Sihui Chen achieved outstanding results and obtained the LTCL Performance Diploma in Piano from Trinity College London at the age of ten. She is currently a student at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and was the second-place winner in the Piano Category at the 2021 2nd World Piano-E Competition .
