For the sixth leg of the race, the pairs must brush up on their language skills as the next stop is at the heart of French-speaking Canada, the capital of its largest province, Quebec.
To get there, the teams must navigate through Canada’s most densely inhabited region, the big cities here make up a third of the nation’s entire population. For the first time in the race, transport and accommodation choices will be plentiful - but potentially damaging for dwindling budgets.

It’s the halfway point in the race across Canada. As the teams take to the ice flows of Hudson Bay, they cross from the province of Manitoba to territory of Nunavut, an area the size of Western Europe, inhabited by the Inuit. The ice is a hunting ground for seals and the polar bears who like to feed on them, it is also a favourite summer holiday spot for beluga whales.
The next leg will take them from the edge of the Arctic to the shore of the Great Lakes – to the fifth checkpoint over 3,000 kilometres away on Manitoulin Island.  Situated in Lake Huron, it is the largest Freshwater Island on the planet and is vast enough to contain over a hundred inland lakes itself.

After one team being eliminated, the remaining four pairs must now navigate to the fourth checkpoint, the remote outpost of Churchill, where polar bears can outnumber people. On Hudson Bay, at the edge of the Arctic, Churchill is not connected to the rest of Canada by road but by a twice-weekly train, and the teams have just three days to catch it. It’s a journey that will take them from Alberta’s major cities of Calgary and Edmonton, before the Rockies make way for Saskatchewan’s great prairies and badlands.

The race to St. John’s is underway as the five pairs leave the gold rush boomtown of Dawson City and head south to the third checkpoint, 2,700 km away in the province of Alberta—the picturesque resort town of Banff. Perched in the Rocky Mountains, 4,500 ft above sea level, Banff is the highest town in Canada, and in this leg, there is a need for speed. The stakes are raised, as the team that reaches the checkpoint in last place will be ELIMINATED from the race. The threat of elimination means every decision counts, and with next to no public transport, the racers face a stark choice: hire a car, endangering their race budgets, or gamble on car sharing, which is cheaper but less reliable.
Tricia and Cathie won the second leg of the race, enjoying a 25-hour lead over their nearest competitors. Will they be able to maintain their lead in this leg?

The race to the final destination, St. John’s is underway and the five pairs leave the indigenous island of Haida Gwaii and head into the wild, navigating their way into the heart of the Yukon to the second checkpoint - Dawson City - a boom town established during the Klondike gold rush of 1898. Getting to Dawson means completing a journey of over 2000km north up one of the most isolated highways in the world, the vast wilderness only occasionally broken by the odd small settlement or truck stop. The racers will have to negotiate dense forests and vast ice fields, all with next to no public transport.
Claudia and her father Kevin, the first team to complete the first leg of the race, spent nearly a quarter of their travel budget and only managed to arrive two minutes ahead of the second-place team. In the second leg, how will the trailing teams challenge this leg 1 champion?

The teams set off from Vancouver – perched at the edge of the Pacific Ocean - and must navigate their way north to the first checkpoint, Tlell on the island of Haida Gwaii.
Despite being super-confident at the start line, best friends since school Tricia and Cathie, struggle to get out of the starting point of Stanley Park, the sacred peninsula where the race kicks off. Due to a deteriorating eye condition, Tricia quickly feels a burden, struggling to read the map and negotiate the busy Vancouver streets.

It’s straight into the deep end for brothers Marc and Michael who barely know one another. They need to find a way of working together because upon hitting Vancouver Island, they realise they have a narrow window of time to get off it again if they are to reach the first checkpoint without being days behind the other teams. They have to do so by navigating a long list of Marc’s anxieties and fears.
When it comes to asking for help, husband and wife, Zainib and Mobeen are chalk and cheese. Bubbly orthopaedic surgeon Mobeen will talk to anyone but psychiatrist Zainib prefers animals to people. Together, they’ll need all the charm they can muster as their decision to ski at the resort of Whistler leaves them stranded in the mountains without any access to public transport heading north whatsoever.
52-year-old Ladi believes he has raised his daughter, and travelling partner, Monique to be a molly-coddled Princess and that the race is a perfect opportunity to educate her about the world at large.
Kevin is also travelling with his daughter and begrudgingly agrees to head to Claudia’s must-see - the pristine Great Bear rainforest. Negotiating the tricky Canadian transport system to get there leads Kevin to make a decision that could impact their race dramatically as well as bring up wounds from the past.
The race is on, and the stakes are higher than ever before as the legacy of the pandemic throws extra challenges at our travelling couples who all want to be first to the finish line and win the £20,000 cash prize. As the series unfolds we will see chance encounters, cultural as well as personal revelations and some of the most awe-inspiring locations on the planet. The thrilling unpredictability of the race is sure to change the teams lives forever.
