禁宮武功秘笈葵花寶典被盜,錦衣衛太監古金福懷疑是林震南所為.他下令手下全帶領太監往林家染廠查探,並截殺林氏父子,林父垂危,托華山弟子令狐沖(許冠傑飾)及岳靈珊(葉童飾)把寶典所在轉告其獨子平之,沖及珊日夜趕路,回華山跟師父岳不群(劉兆銘飾)會合.其時全已殺平之,並假扮他混入華山,群不虞有詐,讓他與沖見面.假平之套得林父遺言後以毒酒害沖,群洞悉,假意把珊許配給他拖延時間.珊反對婚事不果,欲與沖私奔.沖因中毒爽約,醒來後負傷追珊,竟錯認魔教教主任盈盈是珊,盈被沖之痴情感動,為他療傷,假平之回林家找到寶典,但立刻被群奪去,二人大打出手,沖趕至,加入戰團,盈相助,群為奪寶典殘害弟子,最後沖以偷龍轉鳳手法取回寶典,仍避不過一場江湖鬥爭.
