Having retained its championship title at Robocon Hong Kong 2023, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) represents Hong Kong, China to compete for the championship at the ABU Robocon held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia together with competitors from the other 12 countries and regions.
One month before the departure, the CUHK team continues to race against the clock, striving to push the robots to the limit. On the other hand, the University of Hong Kong, being the 1st runner up in the local contest, also sends robots to assist the CUHK team in practising, with a view to achieving the best result in Cambodia for Hong Kong team.
In the international arena, the robots from China team and Japan team stand out, making the other competitors lose their nerve. As the champion of the previous ABU Robocon, the CUHK has hiccups as their rabbit robot and elephant robot are not used to the environment. The students, after a whole year of hard work for the contest, finally comes to the destination of their dream-chasing journey. How confident are they in winning for themselves at the end? Can they fulfil their dream at last?

After a whole year of preparation by the teams, the contest day of Robocon Hong Kong 2023 finally comes, in which they can showcase their strength and enthusiasm for robots! This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the ABU Robocon. The host country Cambodia takes “Casting Flowers Over Angkor Wat” as the theme, with the participants having to make good use of knowledge in engineering and computer to design and develop sophisticated and highly competitive robots to compete with one another. The Hong Kong regional contest held in late June this year at Hong Kong Science Park has been successfully concluded. There are more fierce battles in this year’s contest, what are the strategies and secret weapons for the teams to deal with the situation? Can the students fulfil their dream after one year’s passion and hard work? Which team can fight their way to the champion, and represent Hong Kong at the contest in Cambodia?
The 20th Robocon Hong Kong witnesses the exchange and competition among eight tertiary institutions. Showcasing their passion and knowledge in engineering, the teams compete for the entry ticket to the international contest. The international contest is held in Cambodia this year under the theme of “Casting Flowers Over Angkor Wat”, with the inspiration from the traditional Cambodian game of coin tossing and their dance of casting flowers. The teams from three institutions have already been introduced in the previous episode. In this episode, we will introduce the eight teams from the other five institutions. Through recording the robot production process of students, the Programme not only demonstrates the charm of the contest, but also finds out the difficulties and challenges they encountered, thereby witnessing their youthful times and accompanying them in their growth and transformation.
Robocon Hong Kong marks its 20th anniversary this year. Eight tertiary institutions continue to participate and have sent out a total of 14 teams to compete for the only place at the international contest! Cambodia, the host country this year, gets its inspiration from Angkor Wat in designing the contest venue. Together with ideas from two traditional cultures, tossing coins and casting flowers, it has highlighted the theme of this year’s competition, “Casting Flowers Over Angkor Wat”. As the gloom of the epidemic has lifted, the students are more proactive in preparing for the contest this year, in the hope of surpassing their performance last year with hard work. In this episode, we will first visit three of the participating tertiary institutions and learn about their preparation before the contest.
Since 2004, Robocon Hong Kong has trained over 100 enthusiastic engineering elites every year, who showcase their knowledge to the fullest in the arena through competing with local and overseas opponents. The contest not only succeeds in engaging students from different academic backgrounds in the production of robots and promoting the development of local innovation and technology, but also allows the winning team each year to interact with high-performing teams during the Asia-Pacific regional contests and thus enhances the competence of local young engineers. This episode gives the audience a look back at this crucial event to both academia and the engineering industry and how it promotes the development of innovation and technology, and demonstrates how the new generation of elites equip themselves and imagine the future amid a new technology environment.
