    Surrounded by the sea on three sides, Türkiye is a country steeped in history and culture. Its biggest city, Istanbul, straddles both Europe and Asia, making it subtly similar to Hong Kong, a metropolis where East meets West.

    Mr Kerim Sercan Evcin, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Hong Kong and Macau, is our guest for this episode. Apart from introducing viewers to numerous authentic dishes and the unique food culture of his home country, he will join our presenter Chris for a cup of Turkish coffee, the culture and tradition of which have been inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage – they will even forge a 40-year friendship over the drink! Seeing that Mr Evcin is a rowing and drumming enthusiast, Chris will also accompany him in experiencing the dynamic custom of dragon boat racing.

    In the “Foreigners in Hong Kong” segment, we will see how primary school art teacher Selen, who loves art and Hong Kong culture, integrates the city’s iconic neon lights into her teaching. She has also brought Ebru, the unique Turkish art of marbling, to Hong Kong as a platform for conducting cultural exchange.

      Episode 9 - Czechia

      In addition to being a treasure trove of cultural relics and art, Czechia is also home to a number of historical towns and monuments. Many of them are well preserved and noted in the UNESCO register as world cultural landmarks.

      However, Mrs Klára Jurčová, Consul General of the Czech Republic in Hong Kong and Macau, hopes to introduce Chris to the innovative side of her culture. In addition to trying out a VR game developed in her home country, she will also invite him to the HKWALLS Street Art Festival to experience the hipness and dynamism of Czech street art.

      Speaking of art, neon sign making can be considered a traditional craft in Hong Kong. The techniques involved share many similarities with that of Czech glass crafting. Chris will take Klára to a neon light workshop for a taste of local culture.

      Radek Fiala is a glass designer who has been living in Hong Kong for over six years. By combining Chinese aesthetics with Czech craftsmanship, he puts the beauty of glass in an international spotlight.

      Episode 8 - Thailand

      As a country known for its islands with beautiful beaches, culturally rich temple architecture, abundant historical sites, and world-famous cuisine, Thailand has long been a magnet for holidaymakers from around the globe. Its diverse recreational attractions and budget-friendly offerings make it a popular travel destination among many Hongkongers.

      Recognising Thailand’s appeal to the residents of our city, and to coincide with Songkran, the Thai New Year, Mr Chaturont Chaiyakam, Consul General of Thailand in Hong Kong and Macau, will participate in a large-scale Water Splashing Festival held in Hong Kong with our presenter Maisy. They will also visit a Thai temple to experience the sacred ritual of Buddha bathing, thereby gaining a deeper understanding of Thai festivities. To bring this cultural exchange full circle, Maisy will arrange a soul-cleansing journey for Mr Chaiyakam. Through the leisurely exploration of a Buddhist temple, they will delve into Chinese Buddhist culture and learn to live in the moment.

      Piak, a Muay Thai master who has worked in various countries, ultimately fell in love with Hong Kong and decided to settle here. He takes us through his daily routine, from shopping at the wet market and meal preparation to enjoying Hong Kong-style pineapple buns. Having lived here for six years, he is determined to integrate into local life while striving to promote Muay Thai in the city.

      Episode 7 - Austria

      Austria is located in the heart of Europe and renowned for its art and culture. Often referred to as the “Land of Music”, it is the birthplace of classical music and revered composers such as Mozart, Schubert, and Haydn. The country has long been a sought-after destination for countless students with musical dreams.

      In this episode, Mr Gerhard Zettl, Consul General of Austria in Hong Kong and Macau, will join our presenter Maisy on a musical journey. Apart from appreciating the angelic voices of the students of the Vienna Boys Choir Music Academy Hong Kong and getting a taste of Austrian music education, they will also enjoy a Chinese classical music performance at Queen Elizabeth Stadium and try their hand at playing some traditional instruments in a symphonic cultural exchange.

      Henry Steiner, also known as the “Father of Hong Kong Design”, has been living in our city for 63 years and describes himself as a Hongkonger. Local residents should be no strangers to his designs as they span posters, books, company logos, and even our commonly used banknotes. Henry has made significant contributions to the visual language of Hong Kong: not only has he brought his unique graphic design concepts to the city, but his creativity and designs have also kept its citizens company throughout the years.

      Episode 6 - France

      Being one of the oldest nations on Earth, France has broad and deep influences in different aspects of culture throughout history. The residence of the French Consul General in Hong Kong is almost an art exhibition hall in itself. Consul General Christile Drulhe will guides us in exploring French contemporary arts and perfume-making in her residence.

      Something not many people may know is that Hong Kong has been one of France’s major jewellery importers for decades. The consul general will also be a one-day apprentices with our presenter, Chris, at a local goldsmith workshop.

      The cultural exchange between Hong Kong and France is not limited to arts. French biological scientists Benoit, has been conducting research in Hong Kong for more than 10 years and contributed to archiving the city’s natural history.

    • Episode 5 - India

      Episode 5 - India

      While rich in history, India has a relatively young population. Hong Kong’s relationship with the most populous country in the world can be traced back to the mid-19th century, with members of the Indian community in our city contributing to the establishment of local institutions such as The University of Hong Kong and Ruttonjee Hospital.

      India is world-famous for its spices. In this episode, Ms Satwant Khanalia, Consul General of India in Hong Kong, will take our presenter Chris to taste a well-known national dish, biryani, and see how it is prepared, learning about her home country’s food culture in the process.

      India is also a land of festivals, with the various mythological figures of its traditional religious tales playing a role in them. Meanwhile, a mythical beast can also be found in Hong Kong’s Hakka walled villages during festive occasions: the qilin (Chinese unicorn). Ms Khanalia and Chris will visit Liu Man Shek Tong Ancestral Hall, which has a history of over 200 years, and learn the qilin dance as well as how to make the qilin’s head used in this performance.

      What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about Indian cinema? It is most likely the energetic, dynamic, and highly theatrical Bollywood dance.

      Indian dance guru Uday Sathala has been living in Hong Kong for more than 15 years. In addition to teaching Indian dance classes, he also holds workshops at primary and secondary schools, as well as community centres, offering people from all walks of life the opportunity to learn this performing art while promoting the culture of his home.

      Episode 4 - Malaysia

      Malaysia is one of the most popular tourist destinations among Hongkongers. However, Mr Muzambli Markam, Consul General of Malaysia in Hong Kong and Macau, says that to truly understand its people, we should start by learning about Eid al-Fitr. He will invite Maisy to attend a Hari Raya party at his home, where she will learn about traditional Malaysian clothing and religious culture, try some indigenous foods, and even play Congkak, a well-known game of wits enjoyed throughout the nation.

      On the subject of games, Mahjong is perhaps one of the most traditional strategy games in existence. To help Mr Markam better understand the artistry of mahjong craftsmanship, Maisy will ask Master Cheung, who has been working as a mahjong tile carver for over 50 years, to guide him in creating a Malaysian-themed mahjong tile.

      Did you know that a time-honoured medicated oil, which is a household essential in Hong Kong, actually originated in Malaysia? As residents of our city, Mr Gan and his son – the brand’s third- and fourth-generation successors – combine the Malaysian human touch with the adaptability of Hongkongers to devise their own unique business strategy.

      Episode 2 - Italy

      Pizza, pasta, espresso, gelato… When we think of Italy, it’s only natural for the mind to fill up with images of delicious food. However, the country is not only home to an abundance of gastronomic delights, but also a wealth of architecture, art, and culture.

      Mr Camelo Ficarra, Consul General of Italy in Hong Kong and Macau, will take Mishy to experience the artistic side of his homeland by appreciating the works of a master painter and enjoying Italian music at a concert held in celebration of Italy’s National Day. The Consulate has specially invited the Women Orchestra to perform in Hong Kong to commemorate the all-important day when Italian women could legally vote for the first time in 1946.

      Hong Kong and Italy are both gourmet paradises. As our cultural ambassador, Mishy will of course take Camelo to try an iconic Hong Kong dish: wonton noodles. The Consul General will learn how to wrap wontons and also attempt to make bamboo noodles the traditional way.

      Francesco Lietti is an Italian artist who has been living in Hong Kong for more than 15 years. He depicts his memories and imaginings of Hong Kong in his cityscape works. Layer by layer, tone by tone, he presents the vibrancy, energy, and colours of the city to viewers from around the globe.

      Episode 1 - Colombia

      Some people call Colombia “South America's gateway to the world”, while some call it the “coffee capital of the world”. However, it’s the unique vitality of Colombian music that has given the country the name it’s proudest of: “the land of a thousand rhythms”.

      Colombia’s colourful carnival culture originates from the harvest celebrations of its various indigenous tribes, with historical events such as colonisation and nation-building giving rise to an array of ethnically diverse elements. Mr Luís Orozco, Consul General of Colombia in Hong Kong and Macau, will take us on a cultural journey of his homeland, starting with its festive foods and music. Meanwhile, our presenter Chris will take him to the southernmost part of our city, Po Toi Island, known as the “Antartica of Hong Kong”, to participate in the traditional Po Toi Jiao Festival celebrated by the local fisherfolk.

      We will also introduce viewers to Ingrid, an accessories designer who has been living in Hong Kong for many years. Through her works, she showcases traditional Colombian craftsmanship and her compatriots’ passion for life not only to Hongkongers but people from around the world.
