RTHK produces first-run public affairs television
programmes for broadcast by commercial stations. In 2002 RTHK
will:
- televise more classical performances and cultural programmes
to enhance the public's
appreciation of classical music, arts and culture;
- produce programmes to encourage children to express their
views on social issues and strengthen productions of programmes
on education to examine Hong Kong's education reform and to
highlight local universities' features and challenges ahead;
and
- collaborate with overseas broadca sters for co-production
of documentaries and produce programmes on the Mainland's
state enterprises.
2001
554.9 hours (6.7% more than
planned) of programming output were produced for broadcast.
The output included 24.2 hours of special programmes covering
the Hong Kong Film Awards Presentation, live telecast of the
Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra's performance, Pavarotti
in Hong Kong and Asian Youth Orchestra Concert. Full coverage
of Legislative Council sittings and pool coverage of special
events such as National Day Flag Raising Ceremony, celebration
of Beijing's winning bid as the host city of the 2008 Olympic
Games and other official functions were also provided to the
electronic media. RTHK enjoyed a fruitful year, winning 23
awards and commendations from various international television
festivals.

RTHK's television programmes have consistently
achieved high viewership as well as appreciation ratings.
In the 2001 "Appreciation Index" joint survey conducted
with ATV, TVB and Hong Kong Cable, RTHK enjoyed a higher average
of 73.80 when compared with the overall average of 70.33.
